Meet Our Providers

Dr. Joseph Petty

Dr.

As an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, I believe in treating each patient as if they were my own family. Since delivering my first baby as a medical student, I have practiced Ob/Gyn because I love watching families come to life and grow. To be a part of that is the greatest privilege conceivable.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Lamar University, graduating with Highest Honors in 2000. As an undergrad, I spent time volunteering in the emergency room of a local hospital which led me ultimately to a career in medicine. After graduating from Medical School at the University of Texas at Houston in 2006, I completed my Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock in June of 2010. As a Resident, I served as Vice President of the house staff at University Medical Center hospital for 2009-2010. I was elected by my colleagues during my senior year to serve as Administrative Chief Resident for the Department of Ob/Gyn. During this period, I also developed surgical skills in hysterectomy and minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopy and endometrial ablation, and I am pleased to offer such options to my patients today. In my downtime, I keep myself busy with my family, playing with my two boys, fishing and golf.

Please, consider our services at Ob/Gyn Associates of Denton. We promise to deliver the C-A-R-E that you need and deserve.

As a resident in a rigorous and extremely high paced program, Dr. Tyner credits the Hutzel experience for providing a foundation to deal with almost any obstetrical and gynecological emergency.

Following her residency, Dr. Tyner was in private practice in Texas. She remained there until 2007 - at which time, an HMO in the state of Nevada heavily recruited her to provide care for women. She returns now to the great state of Texas to enjoy the great quality of life and to place roots down for her growing family.

Professionally, Dr. Tyner is interested in spending more quality time with her patients. Personally, she is interested in a practice that provides a good work – life balance. She believes both are essential to a healthy quality of life.

Dr. Tyner is married to Coby D. Tyner, Sr. and is the proud mother of two - Coby Jr and Kaycee.

Sherry Oldfield, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)

Sherry Oldfield, CNM

“Mid-Wife” literally translates as “With Woman” in old English and I try to honor that sentiment in everything I do. With all my being, I believe in a woman’s ability to deliver her baby and breastfeed her baby as she chooses. I love watching a strong woman make choices that are right for her and her family. I feel strongly that women need to be given all their options and then supported in their choice. I was a single, working mom while raising both of my children and going to school. I lived many of the challenges most women face.

I started my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse with my two year old daughter in 1983. I started a Registered Nurse program in 1984 and continued to earn a Master’s of Science (MSN) of Nursing in 1990 at corpus Christi State University. In 1992, I finished a Midwifery Certificate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I recently worked in a Baby Friendly Hospital in the mid-cities area of DFW, gaining practical experience in helping breastfeeding mothers. I have sat for the Lactation Certification Exam (IBCLC). I am committed to helping any mom who wishes to breastfeed. My son was born in 1987 and I breastfed with very little support, and “No” Lactation Consultant. It was difficult and I don’t want any woman to feel that isolated.

My career path has taken me to ALL birth settings, hospital, birth center, and home. I have a special place in my heart for homebirth. My daughter has delivered all three of her babies at home and I am deeply honored to have “caught” all three of them.

I believe in birth, wherever it occurs, and if we approach it as a team it can be “your birth, your baby, your way.” I worked at Parkland in Dallas from 1996 to 2008 and have attended thousands of births. I prefer a setting where a woman and her family know me long before their birth.

I think it is essential, whether for birth or birth control, that we know each other so we can find the best options of care for you and your life.
